Title of the study 1 (VB): Studies on bionomics of An. culicifacies in relation to transmission of malaria and its control/elimination in western Rajasthan
Summary:
The project is focused on assessment status and role of An. culicifacies in malaria transmission in Rajasthan. The project is a part of multicentre need based project of MERA India. Precise studies on vector bionomics in their altered environmental conditions is a need in this region as there have been a considerable change in vector dynamics might be due to change in land Use and land Cover pattern in the recent past in Rajasthan. The outcomes of the present comprehensive study would be helpful for Rajasthan in planning, monitoring and achieving category

Title of the study 2 (MIG) : Transmission of Malaria during Pilgrimage Walks in Western Rajasthan
Summary:
Ecologically western Rajasthan is categorized in unstable zone due to ecological climatic conditions and reintroduced every year. The migrating population, poor drug compliance and health seeking behavior, vectors susceptibility are major causes. About 5-6 lakh pilgrims from different states walks about ~300 kms to visit holy Ramdevra temple in Jaisalmer district during Aug-Oct, during malaria transmission season. During their walk, pilgrmis halts in night camps. These pilgrims are mainly from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. We hypothize that there is a role of such migration in reintroduction of malaria in western Rajasthan. The outcome of the study would help developing suitable surveillance (screening) mechanism and intervention strategy to check re-introduction of malaria in parts of Rajasthan, which can have long term effects on local malaria transmission
