Title of the project: Attractive Toxic Sugar Bait (ATSB) methods to control mosquitoes in different regions of Delhi and NCR
Summary:
Widespread development of insecticide resistance in mosquitoes has necessitated a suitable insecticide delivery system in Anopheles stephensi to manage resistance and prevent malaria resurgence. The project aims to manage Anopheles population using attract-kill approach by formulation of Attractive Toxic Sugar Baits (ATSBs); a combination of a concentrated sugar-based food source, an olfaction stimulant and an oral insecticide. Initial laboratory studies will identify the suitable components and optimize their combinations to formulate effective ATSB. Regular trials with the formulation will be held at the selected sites to determine its efficacy against An. stephensi. The approach may also have relevance for surveillance and control of An. culicifacies, An. subpictus, Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus.
