Title of the project: Assessment of cost-effectiveness and operational feasibility of mass-screening and treatment of malaria
Summary:
India accounts for 4% of global malaria cases; and has set up 2030 as the target year for eliminating malaria. “Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakarana (DAMaN) – Malaria Control in Inaccessible Areas” is a flagship program, initiated during 2016-’17 in Odisha. By DAMaN activities, Odisha has been able to reduced malaria prevalence drastically. This study will venture identification of the population at risk, operational feasibility, cost-effectiveness, budget impact, and stakeholders’ perspective on Mass Screening and Treatment of Malaria (MSTM). The proposed study will be a Health Technology Assessment – focused on 3E (Efficacy, Effectiveness, Equity) efficacy and effectiveness of the program using economic evaluation, and address equity in terms of vulnerability mapping and operational feasibility and stakeholders’ perception. The outcomes from this study will provide resources for large-scale implementation in other high burden states that will help carve a pathway towards malaria elimination from India by 2030.
